Glossary - Financial Sponsor

A financial sponsor is an entity that invests in the equity of companies, typically through leveraged buyouts, venture funding, or growth capital to enable a company to reach its next stage of development. Financial sponsors are often private equity firms, venture capital firms, or investment banks that provide capital, strategic advice, and potentially managerial expertise. They usually acquire a significant stake or control of the company and work towards increasing its value over time with the eventual goal of exiting the investment through a sale, merger, or Initial Public Offering (IPO).
